Well "Fall Camp" is underway in Morgantown. I always get a chuckle out of "Fall Camp" starting in July but it is what it is; anyway the talk of this camp has been bad luck. Not in the form of major injuries or off field issues but simply the weather and a series of nagging injuries.
Rich Rodriguez, now entering his 7th season as head coach at West Virginia, is not pleased with the developments of this years Camp. The first week of camp most practices were interrupted by thunderstorms forcing the team into the Caperton Indoor Facility, which despite it's esthetic beauty sitting up on the hill behind Mountaineer Field, is not coach Rodriguez favorite place to conduct practice. It is a bit cramped when you get 100+ players packed in there to run a full practice. besides coach Rod would also prefer all practices outside in the blazing sun with sweltering temperatures for conditioning purposes.
Then there are the nagging injuries robbing certain players of valubale practice time. Numerous wideouts have been injured and missed time in camp, especially Sophomore Wes Lyons, who is expected to play a major role in this seasons offense has been hampered all camp with a hamstring pull while Junior college transfer Alric Arnett has had a nagging ankle sprain. this added to the transfer of junior wideout Jeremy Bruce to Akron leaves the wideouts position a bit thin on experiance.
In past years I have searched through the internet for news stores on fall camp and compile my own take on what was happening into condensed updates on this site, however in the last couple of seasons since the Mountaineers have become an "Elite Level Team" there is some much good coverage of the camp I am simply going to link directly to the experts at Blue & Gold News, the Charleston Daily Mail and MSNSportsNET.com. I will pick things up again during game week with some commentary on the Western Michigan Broncos from up here in Kalamazoo Michigan.
